So a hearty high-oh of congratulations are in order to the folks in Texas for having reached an execution milestone last week. Kimberly McCarthy became the 500th prisoner executed in Texas since the Lone Star state reinstituted the death penalty in 1976.
McCarthy was convicted of killing her 71-year old neighbor, Dorothy Booth. Supposedly McCarthy went to Booth's home on the pretense of borrowing a cup of sugar. Upon entering Booth's apartment McCarthy stabbed her with a butcher knife and bludgeoned her with a candelabra. McCarthy also cut off the elderly woman's finger in order to steal her wedding ring.
How neighborly! Mr. Rogers would be so proud!
Oh, and for those of you who enjoy dining on the details, McCarthy's last meal consisted of Pepper steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed vegetables, white cake with chocolate icing.
