This was one of those shows I used to watch because I was a lazy kid and there was probably nothing else to watch, but I never really cared for it, particullary the two annoying brothers, Sandy and Bud.

But Flipper was awesome, smarter I'm sure than both those boys together. All the Flippers were.

I clearly lived a deprived childhood - no Flipper (not in my house, possibly not in Britain at all - I don't know)! I just love the "look" of all these shows. Maybe life really was coloured like that back then... Maybe that's also why everyone but me likes the Instagram stuff: it makes everything look like our childhoods!

There were similar shows, all developed by a guy named Ivan Tors, around that time revolving around human treatment of wild animals and the environment. Some fantastically harmonious relationships with lions, tigers, and bears, oh my. I adored Daktari with Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion. It was based on real life veterinarians and animal rights, anti-poaching activists in Africa. And then, of course, there was Gentle Ben with little Clint Howard. And Seat Hunt with Lloyd Bridges!

Oh my God! DAKTARI! Yes! I loved that show, although I apparently insisted on calling it "Blacktari" for some reason (rather like the French who insist that it's DARK Vador, despite what I tell them...)...

It's sad, you can't find Daktari on either Hulu or Netflix, and now I want to see it again. Perhaps it's for the best: what I thought fantastic then might not measure up now.
