Great title, huh? Unfortunately I can't take credit for it. Hooters for Neuters is an upcoming bikini contest sponsored by the Hooters Restaurant chain and the Los Angeles Animal Services. And of course there are those who are unhappy with this generous offer.
City Controller, and most probably major dog egg, Laura Chick, is complaining that the event is degrading to women.
Chick, who plans to change her name to Laura "She who refuses to answer to a degrading colloquialism for strong, independent woman" in protest of Hooters for Neuters was quoted as saying,
"Are we going backward here? We are a city with all kinds of progressive programs that empower women and end discrimination in the workplace, and now we're being connected with a Hooters bikini contest. It isn't right."
Guess who probably couldn't squeeze into a bikini if her progressive life depended on it?
Animal Services Director Ed Boks says the "Charity Benefit Bikini Contest" would go on as scheduled. While he apologized for upsetting anyone he added that,
"These people have gone out of their way in helping us, and I would hate to deny these businesses from helping to save the lives of animals in our shelters. When somebody steps up and says they want to help your agency raise money, your inclination is to say `Yes'."
Damn straight Boks. Stand firm my Hooter lovin' brother.
