Keep your fork. There's cake

It’s “Cake Day” here at corporate and I’m about to wet my pants with excitement and anticipation.

Cake Day, normally the 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of the month is that festive day when our dept. gets several cakes and/or pies in honor of all the birthdays being celebrated that month.  In this way we avoid experiencing cake and joy overload by having to recognize each and every individual birthday.

Cake Day is particularly exciting for lovers of free food.  Every large company has these people. They’re the ones that can be seen practically running through the halls whenever there’s a rumor of available food. They will also hungrily spread the news to their co-workers:

“There are donuts in the break room.”

“Did you know there are bagels?”

“Do you want me to bring you a plate of potato salad?”

Often times the VP’s will enjoy catered lunches. I do not believe it’s for any other reason than that they like to spend money on themselves because “they’re worth it” but I could be wrong.  In any event, when royalty has finished feasting they will cast the remains to the great-unwashed masses. The hordes will throng around the aluminum containers, clawing and jostling for a morsel of pork tenderloin, a blob of ricotta cheese from a stuffed shell or those last wrinkled green beans. Given what most of us here are being paid I can hardly blame them but what happened to decorum, and pride?  But then if we had any would we really be working here?

The defense rests.

Ok, this is bringing back great memories. One time, at EQE, (read bandcamp), the mapping group had a meeting with Boston Market and they all got the runs that evening.
